I don’t really know anything about grey Jay. I just know how to create my own archives of files and use them as I please. I’m not sure why I would need any kind of app to access my files — except for the player.

I collect actual media files — it’s easy and perfectly reliable. We’ve been doing it since 1997. Why do anything else?
I’ve got a collection of classic iPods — the ones with the clickwheel.
Yes — the files can take time to download and organize and curate but in the end — if I need a thousand hours of audio I can rely on… well, it’s easy and fail proof.
So… when I want to control content I’m consuming, I get the .mp3 or .pdf or whatever it is I’m interested in.
How is grayjay a more reliable manner of being in control of my content on cross country drives ir wherever? I’m not tracking here. Why would anyone choose grayjay over simply controlling their own drives?
Word to the wise.

And thanks for the link to the images!
The great LINUX uprising of 2025!!!
Totally. Thanks.
I’m not exactly acclimatized to the new environment.
OP rocks!
Isn’t it great how twenty six people in a community about privacy downvoted your reasonable comment. Can’t wait or them to downvote this one too. We’re not in this group to jeer piracy and villainize it.
We’re here to celebrate it!
I’m not a huge gamer. 30 hours per year max. I get to longing some immersion so I do four hours and I’m free of the longing for months. I think this might be why I haven’t needed any maintenance.
My kids are still on an XBOX ONE but they too have pretty much grown out of excessive gaming.
Who knows how long these will last when the use falls to minimum.
It’s not jailbroken. I can still pick up games for it at garage sales. I haven’t run into problems — but I mostly play racing games — obviously not online but it’s still fun. RDR still runs. Working as usual.
I’m using a thirteen year old XBOX 360 — love it. Have all physical media. It’s fun. 7 more years until 20 so I guess I’ll keep you posted.
uBlock Origin and Matrix are entirely new to me — of course I can’t have missed references to them in discussions but I just don’t have the time to chase down every good idea.
Simply getting engaged with the Fediverse has been adventure enough.
Here’s hoping more and more people start valuing their privacy more and more.
You need to hand a twenty to a dude on the corner. That’s privacy. We used to have it.
Perfectly relevant. Thank you.
I enjoyed reaching the gist of your meaning: Legislation needs to be written.
So let’s hope that can happen.
And on a personal level, what have you heard about people who intentionally make their data useless?
This has been my strategy.
I never buy what’s recommended.
I purchase items with cash when I can so they are not added to my “profile”.
Have you heard much about this strategy? How might it work if everyone used it? Generally thoughts for how we can defy their machine and protect ourselves?
One would hope…
You can keep the PDF and drink it with your Koolaid.
