Take a look at Meta revenue numbers, they can afford billions in R&D investment just fine. I’m not sure what market share you’re talking about but there’s plenty of money for them to afford the VR research they do.

Why do you believe “the process must start elsewhere”? I’ve literally had YouTube start feeding me this sort of content, which I have no interest in at all and actively try to avoid. It seems very obvious that YouTube is a major factor in inculcating these belief systems in people who would otherwise not be exposed to them without YouTube ensuring they reach an audience.
This has been annoying the shit out of me recently. I use several different computers so I keep running into this dumb shit. I feel like I’m in an endless fight to not use Edge. Microsoft knows I don’t want to use it but they keep shoving it in my face again and again regardless. I really wish regulators would step in and put a stop to this nonsense.

You don’t have to, nextdns on my router handles the Roku.
I blocked it with nextdns, my Roku shows no ads at all. Instead there’s just a blank space where the ads would be, which is so much better and less obnoxious.
Stealing means someone has been deprived of their property, which is not the case for copyright violations.
That’s how I justify it, if it saves me time at work then that’s worth money to me. $10 a month isn’t that much, and since I’ve been trying to reduce my reliance on Google it’s even easier to justify the cost. I’ve been a customer for a few months now and have been really happy with it so far, it’s a better experience than Google search.
I’ve found EPA MPG estimates to be fairly accurate. Unless I’m driving aggressively or there’s a lot of elevation change the highway average has been spot on the EPA number in every car I’ve driven enough to pay attention to the MPG.
You can put it exactly where you want it, exactly when you want it there.
They are supposed to be working on a complete rewrite of the Linux client that’s coming out soon.
It’s new for the consumer market, with past versions of Windows it’s only been available to the biz side.
Thanks! I’ve just got it working now - something weird is going on with my ddns setup but manually linking my IP to the nextdns profile did it.
Interesting. I’m using nextdns on my router, I had manually blocked ads.roku.com and now have the Stephen Black block list enabled too but I’m still getting ads.
Now that I look through my nextdns logs, I don’t see my roku at all so something seems to be up with my config. Thanks for the help!
Do you know what you had to block to stop the Roku ads?
I recently bought a Roku and was surprised to find they force ads on their home screen. It’s obviously not as terrible as a fullscreen ad but its still very annoying.
