Oh, nice. Yeah, I’m fine with my content being searchable on the great uneddit databases. That’s just the nature of the internet – anything you make public should be assumed to be forever public. It sounds like my deleted content won’t be making Spez advertising dollars when people search my old subreddit haunts, which was my goal in deleting my stuff in the first place.
Yeah, I don’t see anything there about reddit undeleting their deleted posts/comments. Many of us burned our profiles to the ground when we left, but I hadn’t heard of them reverting our edits. I would expect that news to blow up as much as the last time Spez did something like that (may the gods erase his soul and the people forget his name).

I love it. I don’t run across these OSes or distros every day, so when I see that my mom has version “23h2” of windows 11, I know it was last updated in the second half of 2023n so it must be recently patched. Likewise, if I run across an Ubuntu 23.10 install, it’s not any older than October 2023, but the 18.04 deployment is a few years old.
In my country, the ISP rents you a modem and router. I told them I had my own modem and router during setup and my monthly cost is slightly less than their advertised price.
I am fortunate that my ISP gives me a routable address, but it is still only dynamic and may change a couple times a year. I would have to pay for a commercial plan if I want a static IP. Some other local ISPs use carrier grade NAT, but you can still request a publicly routable static IP with a business plan. Maybe you can ask your ISP for that?

The cone is the logo for their most popular project (VLC media player), but this is a message from the organization as a whole, which has the logo you currently see. It is not specifically about that one project.
I don’t think they were complaining about the design. It invoked a memory of a beloved video game studio from the past that had a similar logo (Westwood Studios) and they are a bit heartbroken. I didn’t take their comment as an actual complaint against VideoLAN’s logo.
Yes, but some are more difficult to get. Personal domains cost money. Edu, gov, and most business emails are harder to get.

It’s a list of places you can get free, disposable email addresses. Protonmail fits here. Now, why anybody would use this list for mail filtering is a whole different question. They’d be blocking some huge email providers.

Brother, we have wildly different definitions of “nowhere” if you get 5G. When I lived in a rural shithole in the US, I had to drive 100 miles to start picking up 5G signals (though that was just before the pandemic, so maybe 5G coverage has improved greatly in the past 3 years).

I love third party messaging apps. It’s quite a bit more difficult to get every single extended family member on board. 2nd cousin I see at a family reunion every year or two? “Hit me up some time! Just install this app on your phone first and sign up for an account!”

Messaging interoperability between the two major mobile platforms greatly affects communication for those of us who have friends and family on the other platform. Cross-platform messaging allows us to communicate no matter which platform the friend or family member happened to buy. Blocking this feature is anti-competitive and detrimental to communication.
The entire purpose of government is to help make society better for all of its members. Some government representatives may decide that ‘better for society’ would be to allow the corporation to maximize profit even if it harms the consumer. This particular politician believes that society would benefit from this interoperability and that the company may be overstepping anti-competitive monopoly boundaries by blocking it.
Whether you agree with the idea or not, and whether it affects you personally or not is immaterial. It affects society at large and the government is supposed to represent members of its society.
It’s nice that you either don’t use SMS or all of your family/friends are on Android, or you simply don’t have family/friends, but for the rest of us, we would like to send pictures to our grandma without her complaining that it’s pixelated and tiny because she has an iPhone. It has been frustrating for years, but now that a solution has been realized, it seems anti-competitive that one of the vendors is now trying to block the fix. Regardless, even if this fix remains blocked, we do have hope that iOS will get RCS in the near future.
Is this a concern with electric vehicles? I haven’t heard of this being an epidemic that we even need to worry about.
