Yes, it’s harder to do this, especially when you’re starting out; if I saw such an ad like in the post in my area, I would definitely prefer that over a big corporation even for the same price. The fact that this is significantly cheaper makes it even sweeter, and I would have definitely used this guy’s services had I lived in Seattle.
I understand that, but from my personal experience, this is not more stable because companies like these will fire a chunk of their workforce without batting an eye for the slightest shift in the market, whereas a self-employed person will just see a slight decline in demand. Also, the difference in income more than makes up for the perceived stability. Sure it isn’t for everyone, but as a consumer, I’d rather most of the money I pay won’t go to corporate executive’s multi-million dollar salary, but to the people actually providing the service.
That’s awesome! Cutting off giant corporations and giving money directly to the person doing the work is exactly what we should be doing. I bet he is making more money than he would have had he worked for any of the food delivery companies even though it’s cheaper.

I believe you, this world is so weird… For companies that make tens of billions in profit, saving a million dollars on chips is almost a rounding error compared to the benefit to their reputation when their cars are more secure.
I would have expected an OTP type code to unlock a car… Considering how expensive cars are, this is really cheap to implement. Heck, I could buy a yubikey for €25, and I’m sure if a big company wants to buy a million of them, they can do it for a fraction of that cost… A brand new car costs tens of thousands…, it should’ve been a no brainer to include better security.

The bystander effect is really common. I remember when I got first aid training, they told us that in an emergency, you have to tell a specific person to do something rather than ask “someone call an ambulance”.
I think bystander effect should be regularly discussed in schools so people will be aware of it. Getting people to automatically respond and do something and offer help is a pretty important step to making our society safer and healthier.
100%, when I was in middle school and highschool I was regularly called gay for not liking football, or not knowing random car facts, or not liking spicy food, and other stuff like that. It was much better in university, but it was in a different region so I can’t compare directly.
Interestingly, one of these bullies came out as gay 10 years later, which I find sad that someone had so much internalised self hatred that he had to project it outwards to feel better about himself.
I don’t know what middle/high schools are like today since I don’t know anyone in that age range, but I bet it’s much better now with today’s internet culture being much more queer positive.

Not all functionalities. You can’t even adjust the direction/power of the AC or open the glovebox without multiple presses on the touchscreen.
I’m very glad, the lack of buttons are a safety hazard… Looking at these stupid TESLA cars especially… You can’t even adjust the AC without messing with the touchscreen, which means your eyes are not on the road…
Still not going to own a car, but at least it will be slightly safer by bringing back physical buttons, so hurray for small victories.
Now I feel tempted to make a Dropbox account and fill it with gigabytes of noise data…
