I think the difference between our positions is that I believe pointing a loaded weapon at someone should be considered as intending to kill that person, at least until evidence and circumstance can determine otherwise. Because aiming a weapon at someone is more than just a threat that you will use it against then, it is taking physical action to prepare to use it against them.

If someone got shot, the rest of it is sort of moot, isn’t it? Responding to trespassers by pulling out a gun is insane to begin with, if the trespassers aren’t doing anything else to imply a threat. Blocking the trespassers from leaving the property is bad enough, but to then threaten then with a gun is horrendous in its own right. Pointing that gun at them is insane unless he intended to shoot them.

If he was shooting targets for practice and had a lapse of judgement and accidentally shot someone, sure, that is a different situation. If you knowingly and intentionally point a gun at someone and “accidentally” shoot them, I don’t see how that is any different than intentionally shooting them, other than the timing of when you pull the trigger.

I grew up in an area that was fairly dark. Probably somewhere between Bortle class 3 and 4 when I was young.

When I went backpacking in the Rockies, it was like nothing I had ever seen before. The night sky is vast and beautiful, and so full of lights and color. Constellations are hard to make out because there are so many dots to look at, rather than the light being too faint to make out.

It’s just a form of national identification number. It’s assigned at birth, and is used as a means to legally identify an individual for government purposes (taxes, benefits, acquiring licenses and other forms of identification). They exist in Europe as well, they are just called something different than SSN. Not every country uses them, though.

Oh yeah, reckless endangerment would definitely be appropriate, though if there were other teachers or staff reasonably close I could see it being contested.

Yeah, whether or not they are fired, because it is certainly unprofessional behavior, it isnt criminal. Unless you count that they were somehow putting the children in direct danger, but that probably isn’t the case for a geography or math teacher. Drunk woodshop teacher, maybe?

It seems they had the same thought “Crap, what can I do with this flamethrower? Maybe I can trade it for that drone!”
