So you’re saying they designed it stupidly for no reason? Gosh.

First I’ve heard of it. I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Even for personal use, I’ve tried various alternatives to Photoshop over the years like Gimp and Krita and they just can’t compete. Photoshop is just ridiculously powerful, so it sucks even more that the company that owns it is so shitty.
You can still save locally even if you’re using the Creative Cloud software. I stuck with CS6 for a long time because I hate software subscriptions, but eventually bit the bullet to get access to the new features and a UI that actually scales to my monitor. It’s been mostly fine, but I’d still prefer to just own the software I use.
The only time I ever got screen burn was because of this wallpaper.
It’s a solution looking for a problem. As someone in the comments of the article pointed out, Microsoft spent a lot of money investing in OpenAI and now they’re desperately trying to find a way to justify it.
The Lumia Windows phones were actually pretty nice. App support was lacking but I have never been an app user. I would have kept using mine if the BlackBerry KeyOne hadn’t come out shortly after.
I think it’s common for former BlackBerry stans to go for unconventional phones to replace them. iPhone and typical Android phones are boring to me. I’m currently using a Surface Duo 2 and looking into a foldable as my next phone.
This is why, as a software developer, I’m against designing any system that assumes what the user wants and tries to do it for them automatically. On the occasions where the assumption is right, it’s a mild convenience at best. When it’s wrong, it is always infuriating if not dangerous.
If this were a recent phenomenon, I would agree with you. But western fascism didn’t go away when the good times were rolling. It may have been quieter until recently, but these aren’t just scared imbeciles struggling through 21st century inequality.
My main issue with anything that flies and doesn’t have wings is that, if anything bad happens, it’s straight to the ground and everyone (probably) dies. Planes can at least glide if there’s an engine failure.
That said, we still have helicopters and hot air balloons, so I don’t see why we shouldn’t have dirigibles as well.
I have the opposite problem. I see a lot of funny memes but I had to check Reddit to find out about the Baltimore bridge collapsing. It’s probably because I have a lot of communities and instances blocked because of too many crappy people on them. News communities tend to attract a lot of people with polarized opinions so I had to get rid of a lot of them for the sake of my mental health. The tradeoff is it’s harder to stay informed.
I don’t have an account on Reddit so I just check the front page for headlines and don’t bother with the comments. Less engagement makes it easier to ignore the idiots, whereas on Lemmy I’m compelled to interact more.
Are there any downsides to setting your region to some place other than where you actually are?
Eat the rich software engineers.
I was wondering about this very thing recently and how bad I should feel every time I upload an image.
At least object storage is an option.
That’s not really the takeaway here. Social media has proven to be a dangerous source of disinformation. TikTok is the first popular social platform in the West that is controlled by an antagonistic totalitarian government. It is uniquely dangerous.
But that doesn’t mean this article isn’t bad and written by someone with questionable viewpoints at best. A broken clock is right twice a day and all that. Unless you’re on military time. Or it’s a digital clock.
I can’t wait until we can start appending “lemmy” to our search strings in order to find useful results.
It’s more like “the Chinese government controls the thing an entire generation reaching voting age stares at all day.” If you thought Facebook and Twitter were bad for disinformation and radicalizing people just wait.
Remember when it was “if he doesn’t cancel student debt we won’t vote for him in 2024”? Then he started canceling as much student debt as he could. Now they’re mad because the president hasn’t unilaterally discarded a long-standing alliance. There is no situation where he can win with these brain dead trolls. Even if Biden did exactly as they ask, they’d move on to another nebulous reason why “it shoulda been bernie reeeeee!!!”
Pfft. I’ve been a brain in a jar producing my own reality for over 37 years. I’d be demanding my own accolades if any of you actually existed.
