i don’t know why they “trust me” dumb fucks
Real quote from Mark Fuckerburg.
yea so if you ever need info about anyone at harvard just ask i have over 4000 emails, pictures, addresses, sns
That’s precisely why I left L.W. They also were removing community posts voicing opposition to threads federation. I witnessed it firsthand, where posts I commented in (and in which the majority of comments opposed it) were removed.
Now they removed the piracy communities again after promising not to. They are straight up untrustworthy and don’t care about what their users actually want.
I am happy on feddit.de. They are defederated from Threads and the tankie instances.
Yeah lemmy.ml has gotten worse with tankies, but it’s no where near as bad as the others. And I still want to see some lemmy.ml communities (tech, gaming).
But unless it’s changed with some of the recent updates, blocking instances as a user (on lemmy) only blocks posts from the instance but still allows interaction with their users in comments of posts. It’s different for kbin and mastodon.
I don’t want the annoyance of arguing with tankies from their main instances. I’d rather be defederated.
Also, why go back to lemm.ee and do that when I don’t need to on feddit.de? That seems kind of silly in the first place.
I remember a news segment where monozygotic (identical) twins had different results for their genealogy. Their efficacy and reproducibility should definitely be questioned.
Not to mention the problem of your DNA info being sold and used for nefarious purposes. Not just by hackers, but if the company is bought out by a different organization, they don’t have to honor the terms of 23andMe or Ancestory.com regarding not selling you data.
Edit: Here’s the story.
Their comment wasn’t out of touch, but your faith in the mainstream DNA testing market certainly is.
I have a key fob faraday cage/pouch keychain to prevent people from being able to dupe my key fob’s signal.
The modern Republicans are domestic terrorists by their own admission. They deserve to be named and shamed for what they are.
Both sides are not alike… The following is an excerpt from my blog post (no ads, no benefit to me).
In a study evaluating Left-Wing and Right-Wing domestic extremism between 1994 and 2020, there was one fatality as the result of Left-Wing extremism, versus 329 fatalities resulting from Far Right extremism in that 25 year period. [5]
The Far-Right movement is the oldest and most deadly form of domestic terrorism in the United States, and The Anti-Defamation League Center on Extremism found that the Far-Right is responsible for 98% of extremist murders in the U.S. [24] Furthermore, for nearly every year since 2011, Far-Right terrorist attacks/plots have accounted for over half of all terror attacks/plots in the United States. [21]
In the U.S., Right-Wing extremism was responsible for two-thirds of all failed, foiled, or successful terror attacks in 2019, and was responsible for 90% of attacks in the first half of 2020 alone. [21] Since 2013, Far-Right extremism has been responsible for more terror attacks/plots than the Left-Wing, ethnonationalism, or religiously motivated attacks/plots. [21]
Now that sounds like a qanon conspiracy…
I think the reality is that their claimed ideals and actions do not align, and they are a party of projection.
I’m not defending them whatsoever, but your narrative comes off like a looney conspiracy theory the alt-right, qanon, or MAGA radicals would push.
It’s different on other platforms (like mastodon) but on lemmy, it only blocks posts from the blocked instance. Users from Threads would still be interacting in comments with the user who blocks their instance.
Regardless, I believe they should be defederated by instance admins on ethical grounds. Meta/FB have run unethical, uninformed experiments on their users, including purposefully inducing depression in their users.
The fact that Meta has assisted in genocide should be grounds for defederation by instances which claim to protect and care about their users.
Meta’s platforms have also played a key role in radicalizing users, and they purposefully marketed Threads to far-right extremists.
Here’s my argument with citations
There’s also good arguments to defederate and block them from the fedivers based on EEE.
If an instance’s admins claim they care about protecting their users and providing a safe, healthy community but are federated with Threads, then they are either uninformed or liars.
Nah, it’s on topic to the comment discussing userbase and donations. I’m not alone in leaving due to Threads either.
Yeah, I plan on donating here as well. I am a little cleaned out by tuition and textbooks at the moment though…
Just chiming in to say they lost my donations and me as a user for federating with Threads. I’m over on feddit.de now because they’re the only instance I could find defederated from Threads and the tankies.
Edit: Have to edit this comment because I’m laughing at all of the butthurt users who are downvoting me because they don’t like my personal decision.
This is exactly the route I’ve been thinking about heading!
I’ve still got some songs (including horrendously misattributed artists/titles) from limewire in my music library, all these years later.
Eh, that only goes so far. Any appeal to their original content is eroded by their practices surrounding streaming packages.
I canceled when they bumped their price up a lot, and had it structured to where the HD streaming was paired with the package for a bunch of devices. It’s bullshit that they don’t allow HD streaming with a package with only 1 or 2 devices.
I am also deterred by their password sharing crackdown, because I used to share subscription payments with my brother in another household.
I read that they’re planning on doing away with the commercial free subscription, and I have no interest to resubscribe if it’s a payment plus commercial model.
The convince of having quality original content in one place is nullified by their sleazy bullshit practices. There’s no way that their “convince” outweighs the little effort it takes to pirate the content IMO.
Steam and Netflix are the sole reasons I stopped pirating as a teenager/young adult.
I canceled Netflix long ago at this point and have been on the brink of going back to pirating films/TV. Too many streaming services… it’s just like TV packages before Netflix disrupted the model.
I can’t exactly answer your question, but I strongly encourage you to donate your organs. You can easily save 3 or more lives.
My plan is to do that, and have my remains naturally buried. But natural burial grounds vary by state (if you are in the US). Some states allow natural burial on private property, with some caveats (acreage, ground water).
It’s kinda complicated and requires you to look into your state/county laws and nearby natural burial grounds.
I personally hate the idea of pumping our bodies full of preservatives and sealing it in a concrete tomb underground. I also hate cremation, even if it is accompanied by planting trees over the ashes.
I think the best legacy is to transfer our ATP to organisms in a food web. How cool is it to imagine our energy transfered into fertilizing plants and eaten by insects, which are eaten by frogs, which are eaten by snakes, and then hawks, etc.
So much cooler than wasting it in cremation or trying to preserve a useless empty vessel. What cooler legacy is there than allowing your energy to be carried on through an endless chain of diverse lifeforms?
That’s actually a pretty compelling argument.
But then again, I don’t think Nixon signed onto have his head in a glass jar. Is parody not an exception?
I have the same approach of browsing all and blocking what I don’t want as I come across it. Which in my case, happens to be mostly anime and shitposting communities.
