Man for real.
All I’ve ruined for you is disappointment
Haha I agree arch is the meme recommendation. It has its benefits like you’ve detailed out… but it’s not for a windows convert. I’ve ran it, it can require more fiddling than some of the other distros. Tinkering that newbies can’t do.
Me I’m an apt man. So I tend to suggest distros that center around that package manager… it just so happens that they are some of the newbie ones.
I once installed mint on my ex father in laws machine and it ran perfectly for ages for him (with auto updates) They were spending $$$s a quarter on windowa system cleanup due to viruses. As he was an online slot machine / junk flash game player. So of course he would get all the viruses. Once he went mint, he had 0 issues (with the os) the issues he had was more user error with online behavior.
Anyway. No problem for the gruffness of your reply, as I agree with what you’ve said. :)
I thought the ice wall was knocked down by the white walker dragon…
You know what I’m not even going to continue this joke because I don’t want to give any credit to season 8
Fuck D&D Where is the Lemmy version of /r/freefolk?
Folks will say arch.
But honestly any modern Linux system with 3rd party drivers will work. Mint pop_os arch Manjaro Debian Ubuntu etc
I’m running a 1660 and an i5 64xx on kubuntu 24.04 Granted that stuff is older but you’ll have the same experience.
Unless you’re running the absolute bleeding edge… You’ll not have a lot of problems.
*Ymmv of course but majority of folks won’t have issues.
Trashguides is a good place for the arr applications.
Tldr you’ll need a hoster, newshosting is what I use And an indexer drunkenslug is one I use. I have 6. Lol
Indexer is the search that points to the files hosted on the hoster.
Good luck!
I’m on Usenet now. With the arr applications it makes it a lot easier and I rarely am unable to find something. Not to mention maxing out bandwidth and downloading the entire file.
Remember the wolverine origins movie? Lol I remember when the pre-release"graphics not completed" version hit the internet. Fun times lol
Cable installer guy came to the house one time… Hooked up internet and asked me if I was going to Torrent or not. I had no idea what he was talking about as this was 2005.
Did some googling canceled my cable subscription and I never looked back.
Got off the The seas when Netflix was big… And then all that changed again…
So here we are again.
Thanks for this. I’d not heard of soulseek. I’m an *arr person with Usenet. It’ll be nice to see if I can find some rare / missing items.
Futurama tried to warn us.
Sitting in a meeting right now…
This is such a an accurate comment.
I have a copy of sg-1.
It’s in widescreen, 1080p , the audio is from the Blu-ray and the video is an upscaled release.
My server crashed as I was in the middle.of my rewatch and so I jumped over to prime to continue as I rebuilt my server.
It’s in 4:3, maybe 720p, horribly dark. Audio was recorded on two cans and a string and it has advertisements.
I couldn’t watch it. It was such a painful experience.
When my server crashes… I’m going tiny. Beelink S12 Pro Mini PC, Intel 12th Gen Alder Lake- N100(up to 3.4GHz), 16GB DDR4 RAM 500GB PCIe SSD, Desktop Computer Support 4K Dual Display/USB3.2/WiFi 6/BT5.2/Gigabit Ethernet for Home/Office https://a.co/d/gZYihvd
And a 3.2 enclosure
Mediasonic USB 3.2 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosure – USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps Type C | USB-C (HF7-SU31C) Support 18TB HDD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078YQHWYW
And you’re welcome!
Good luck!
Man for me it’s the iGPU via Intel.
I have an i3 with an Intel IGPU and it’ll murder any transcode I throw at it.
If you don’t want to rebuild… I think a quadro 2000? Is the sweet spot for cost vrs power.
But do your own research… I’m really rusty when it comes to suggesting gpus for servers.
https://www.serverbuilds.net/ is a great resource for that stuff. They have handy transcode guides there
Trash guides.
That’ll get you sorted.
The arrs are amazing
Online drug stores hate this one neat trick
I work for a small dev company. We have no idea what other silos are working on. Only 1-2 people at the very top have some sort of inkling… Maybe.
In a company that large… I don’t doubt that projects get filed under a very large encompassing epic (or the equivalent for what ever scrum software they are using) and not overly discussed with the business majors / marketing people that are the c-level people now.
